 HORTATORY EXPOSITION TEXT

Hortatory exposition is a text that describes the theory / issues in a comprehensive manner with the aim of encouraging others to do / not to do something.
The text serves to invite and induce the readers about something with the reasons, something should happen or not happen

GENERIC STRUCTURE OF HORTATORY EXPOSITION
1.  Thesis / General Statement
2.  Arguments
3.  Recommendation.

Examples :


Language features
* Generic participant. Object, the subject is general
* There are action verb
* Using a mental process, eg: think, feel, understand and so on.
* Simple present tense
Analytical Exposition

Analytical Exposition can be understood as a text that tries to provide a comprehensive explanation of a problem with showing the opinions of supporters carefully.
The purpose “to attempt to persuade the reader to believe something by presenting one side of the argument.”

GENERIC STRUCTURE OF ANALYTICAL EXPOSITION
1.      Thesis / General Statement
2.      Arguments
3.      Reiteration/conclusion

1.      The Dangerous of Using Drugs
2.      Is Smoking Good for Us?
3.      Opportunity in the Global Financial Crisis

5.      Laptop as Student’s Friends

Language features:
1.      Emotive words such as: alarmed, worried.
2.      Words that qualify statements such as: usual, probably
3.      Words that link arguments such as: firstly, however, on the other hand, therefore.
4.      Usually present tense
5.      Compound and complex sentences

From the generic structure, what make big different is that analytical exposition ends with paragraph to strengthen the thesis while hortatory makes a recommendation for readers.
